Chandra Brooks is an African-American artist whose work in creating a universal fairy tale through storytelling, theatre and mixed media
explores the question of identity globally as well as using her private
rendition of the tale to develop the multi-cultural aspects of being a
"Black" American beyond the stereotypical representations of Black culture
around the world. The Harlem Renaissance and female artists such as Nina
Simone and Josephine Baker developed new perceptions of what it means to
be Black and an Artist and Ms. Brooks work strives to show the German
audience the intellectual and diverse capacity of Afro-American
entertainers outside of the realms of Gospel, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Rythm &
Blues. |
