The Senegalese artist and designer Khalifa Drame makes his furnitures from the material gourd, one of the oldest plants in the world. Gourd has a tradition over milleniums in Africa and is part of the cultural heritage of the African continent.
The furniture presented in the exhibition are made with a special technique designed and developed by Khalifa Drame. The cooperative Goorgoorlou based in Dakar/Senegal is an association of artists, artisans and promoters and developers of products for tourists. The fundamental idea of the initiative is the love for art and ecology. At the international biannual art festival in Saint Etienne, France, in 2000, Goorgoorlou received the award „Coup de Coeur du Public“. |
